WAY OF DEVELOPING THE COMPETENCIES FOR FOOTBALL REFEREES IN THAI PREMIERLEAGUE TO INTERNATIONAL

The objective of this research is to evaluate potentials and ways to improve Thai Premier League football referee for an international platform. This is a quantitative and qualitative study. There are four steps in the research process; document analysis, an interview from ten former football referees, self-administered questionnaires for one hundred and eight current referees, and an interview from elevenexperts in sport and recreation management.
The result showed that there are five core competencies; work readiness, ethics, achievement motivation, teamwork, and job stability. The functional competencies involved such as eyesight, personality, interpersonal skill, confidence, emotional stability, game analysis etc. There are fourteen ways to prepare Thai Premier League football referee for international platform; attending conferences and seminars, self-development, mentorship, job shadowing and enrichment assignment and activity etc..
