A STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT AND ADMISSION SYSTEMS IN CASE OF UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Abstract

               This research involves the statistical analysis of the undergraduate students’ learning achievement in each admissions system concerning the Production Engineering Department in the Faculty of Engineering. The purpose of this research is to propose sufficient qualifying admission criteria for the students in the upcoming year to the department. In this research, the students’ learning achievements were studied through the grade point average (GPAX) of scholars of students who had the first two digits of the student personal identification number 55, 56, 57, and 58 in 8 different entering methods were collected. The entranceways were divided into two features. The first feature utilized requirements considering examination scores, including GAT/PAT, Academic Excellence for direct admissions, Central University Admissions System, and Clearing House. Then another one did not consider any scores from the exam, which called quota systems including 2B-KMUTT, KMUTT Ratchaburi, Alumni Association, and Active Recruitment. Regarding analyzing students’ GPAX, Scatter diagrams and Bar charts had been manipulatively used. As a result of the analysis, it was noticeable that students from admission systems that considered examination scores tended to have higher GPAX or more learning achievement than students from quota systems. Consequently, the suggestion of this research was to adjust the qualifying criteria of quota systems in order to admit coming students in the future.
