Abstract

The purposes of this research was to study the return to work as a panhandle of the welfare recipients in Nonthaburi shelter for the destitute. The research used qualitative research methods by using in-depth interviews, semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation with key informants, beggars being in the shelter for the destitute in Nonthaburi more than 2 times. The data were analyzed and interpreted according to objectives of the research. The results showed that factors of the return to work as a panhandle of the welfare recipients in Nonthaburi shelter for the destitute consisted of psychological factors, namely insecurity of the mind returning to former behaviors, social and economic factors including health problems as a limitation to work, easy to work as a panhandle with no competency and knowledge, lack of educational opportunities, lack of acceptance from family and society, no opportunity to work in other profession after receiving assistance, and problem of enforcement of the begging control law, as well as, obstacle to apply occupational training knowledge, focusing on agriculture and handicrafts, to work in other profession.
