The findings strongly suggest that seen through students’ eyes, native speaker (NS) accents are not necessarily more comprehensible than non-native speaker (NNS) accents. In fact, the majority of the participants remained neutral on this issue. The findings also reveal that students were aware and open-minded to various accents and pronunciation models in English, and they remained so in terms of how they envisioned the use of such accents in their future communication in English. Thus, their answers indicated that they were willing to use and produce other accents and pronunciation models in English than the NS model, including their own local South Korean English accent (SKEA).
ER -
