Abstract

The objectives of this research were to investigate the attitudes and behavior of Thai tourists on environmental conservation in the households and hotels; and to study the factors relating to environmental conservation behaviors in the households and hotels of Thai tourists in Koh Samui. The research sample consisted of purposively selected 400 Thai tourists in Koh Samui. The research instrument was a rating scale questionnaire. Descriptive statistics for data analysis were the frequency, mean, percentage, and standard deviation; while inferential statistics were the t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient. The findings revealed that attitudes towards environmental conservation of Thai tourists were at the very high level. The environmental conservation behaviors in the households and hotels were at the high level. The Thai tourists had environmental conservation behaviors in the households were better tan their counterpart behaviors in the hotels. Gender, age, and career factors were not related significantly to the environmental conservation behavior in the households and hotels; while the hotel type factors were not related to environmental conservation behaviors in hotels. In addition, the factor of different educational levels had no effect on the environmental conservation behaviors in households; while it affected the environmental conservation behaviors in hotels. Moreover, there was the relationship between attitude and environmental conservation behaviors in households and hotels.
