Artistic Craftsmanship: Promoting Quality of Life and Sustainable Development
https://so05.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/ssajournal/article/view/277854

This research aims to 1) analyze the philosophical and cultural implications of artistic craftsmanship within the context of Thai society, 2) examine the role of artistic craftsmanship in enhancing quality of life across psychological, cultural, and economic dimensions, and 3) propose development approaches for artistic craftsmanship that align with sustainable development principles and Thailand's Soft Power promotion. The study employed qualitative research methodologies: document analysis and in-depth expert interviews for the first objective, participant observation for the second objective, and policy and case study analysis for the third objective.

Data analysis was conducted within a philosophical framework encompassing four dimensions: Aesthetics, Metaphysics, Ethics, and Epistemology. The findings reveal that artistic craftsmanship profoundly reflects philosophical values across all four dimensions: aesthetic beauty expressing Thai identity through distinctive forms; metaphysical harmony between material objects and spiritual essence; ethical values promoting moral principles through creative processes; and epistemological transmission of knowledge and wisdom across generations. Additionally, artistic craftsmanship enhances quality of life by fostering mindfulness and concentration, preserving cultural identity, and supporting community economic development. The study concludes that development approaches should balance traditional practices with innovation, utilize environmentally friendly materials, and integrate with educational systems and cultural tourism.
Hattapon Amparot

https://so05.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/ssajournal/article/view/276759

The research, titled "German Perspectives on Thai Behavior in Cultural Dimensions," aims to 1) Examine German cultural perspectives on Thai behavioral characteristics, 2) study and compare communication patterns and expression of opinions between Thai and German cultures and 3) Investigate the differences in time management and planning dimensions between Thai and German cultures. This qualitative research employed in-depth interviews using a semi-structured format via online communication platforms such as Line and WhatsApp. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of two groups: 6 German teachers teaching the German language in Thailand and 5 German nationals married to Thai women. The data were analyzed according to the cultural dimensions’ frameworks.

The research findings reveal that (1) The majority of German teachers working in Thailand have been in the country for less than 3 years, while most German nationals married to Thai partners have lived with their Thai spouses for over 10 years. (2) Thai people's indirect expression of opinions is perceived as potentially leading to misunderstandings and communication avoidance. Nevertheless, the participants understand such communication as part of Thai culture that helps reduce conflict. (3) Thai characteristics that received appreciation include generosity, helpfulness, optimism, peacefulness, and family dedication. (4) Characteristics that Germans view negatively or deem difficult to understand include lack of punctuality, indirect expression of opinions, absence of long-term planning, and certain traditions or social structures such as the emphasis on dowry and respect for elders.
Teerapat BunyaritSupaporn Suwanopas

The objective of this research is to study the tourism behavior, motivation, decision-making, and behavioral intentions of Thai individuals with hearing impairment. The sample group is 425 Thai individuals with hearing impairments. The data was collected using a questionnaire along with the data analysis through a software package, which was analyzed by descriptive statistics. The data collection was conducted through two methods: online questionnaires and field surveys.

The results revealed that most Thai individuals with hearing impairments travel primarily for recreation and travel with family, friends, and relatives, sometimes they travel alone without a personal assistant. On average, they travel 1-2 times per year, spending 1 night per trip, with an average cost of 2,001 to 3,000 baht. They plan their trips independently and receive tourism information through Facebook. They prefer destinations that are natural attractions, such as the sea, mountains, waterfalls, and national parks. Most people choose to use private vehicles for travel and stay at resorts. Travel during the weekends, on Saturdays and Sundays. Before traveling, study information about tourist attractions. During travel, take photos and videos. After traveling, tourists share and post their experiences on social media by uploading images, videos, and messages that express their feelings. Regarding travel motivation, both the decision-making process and tourism behavior intentions are highly developed. The main problems and obstacles in tourism include communication, inadequate facilities, and the attitudes of service staff towards individuals with hearing impairments. The tourism needs of individuals with hearing impairments are sign language tour guides, informational signs with text, images, and equal service. Therefore, those involved in the tourism industry can use the results of the study as a guideline for improving and developing tourism management for individuals with hearing impairments, ensuring that they have equal opportunities to access tourism.
Jinnapas DominicNatthida ChanseekhotChanidapa Jantharasena
