English into Thai Translation Errors: A Case Study of Noun Phrase Translation of English for International Communication Students, Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin

Abstract
This research aims to identify errors in translating noun phrases from English to Thai made by second-year students majoring in English for International Communication at Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin, who enrolled in the course "Translation from Thai to English" in the second semester of the academic year 2023, with a total of 33 students. The research tool used in this study is a translation proficiency test consisting of 20 items focused on four noun phrase pre-modifier structures: (1) Noun modifies Noun) (2) Adjective modifies Noun (3) Verb-ing modifies Noun and (4) Verb-ed modifies Noun. Research results show that 73.64% of students can correctly translate the noun phrase, and 26.36% of translation errors are found. The most dominant error is Meaning Transfer (64.95%), followed by Misorder (23.56%) and other errors (11.49%).
