CHARACTERISTICS OF VDO MEDIA AND TEACHING METHOD USING VDO MEDIA TITLED SUTURE AND INCISION AND DRAINAGE AS WANTED BY STUDENTS, INSTRUCTORS, AND MEDIA EXPERTS

Abstract

            This mixed-method study aimed to determine the characteristics of the VDO media and teaching method using VDO media titled suture and incision and drainage as wanted by students, instructors, and media experts. Part 1 was qualitative research. The sample consisted of 22 students, 5 nursing instructors, and 5 media experts. They were selected through purposively method. The research instrument was validated by a panel of 3 experts. The data was analyzed by content analysis. Part 2 was a descriptive research. The sample were purposively selected including 106 students, 10 nursing instructors, and 5 media experts. The research instrument was a questionnaire which validated by a panel of 3 experts-yeilding IOC value of .67 – 1.00 and tested for reliability by alpha Cronbach’ coefficient yeilding reliability value of .71. The data were analyzed by employing mean and standard deviation. The result indicated as follows:

1. The characteristics of VDO titled suture and and incision and drainage included: 1) Content was precise, lucid, and concise and consistent with teaching doccuments, 2) Illustrations were well-organzied, clear, lucid, and animatedม and 3) Sound was lucid, understandable, attractive and animated. Characteristics of illustrations had the highest mean score, followed by contentand sound.
2. The teaching method using VDO media titled suture and and incision and drainage that was mostly wanted by students, instructors and media experts was the use of VDO media with demonstration. The teaching method using VDO media followed by demonstration in class study was at the highest level followed by teaching method using demonstration followed by watching VDO media in class study and watching VDO media out-of-class of demontation in class study followed by out-of-class watching VDO media.
