THE CRITICAL VIEW OF THE EXPLANATION ABOUT WORK MOTIVATION THROUGH THE LENS OF J. STACY ADAMS’S EQUITY THEORY

The motivation at work is one of the important topics of organizational studies from past to present. Nowadays, there are many theories that explain the human motivation at work in the organization. One of several theories is J. Stacy Adams's equity theory which was written in 1965. However, many textbooks still mention this theory to describe the motivation at work. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to critique the equity theory in four areas which are the explaining of phenomena, the pattern of explanation, structure and action, and the level of analysis between individuals or whole compound.
