TWELVE HAZARD FACTORS (DIRTY DOZEN) IN AVIATION MAINTENANCE
Keywords:
hazard factors, maintenance, aircraftAbstract
This article aims to describe and analyze 12 hazard factors, offer advice on preventing and reducing errors from aircraft maintenance technicians. The twelve hazard factors or the Dirty Dozen theory is the discussion about 12 human factors which may cause errors for aircraft maintenance workers. It could lead to numerous accidents. Gondon Dupont developed the framework called Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB)-the implementation for safety. The theory is widely used in the human factor training course for aircraft maintenance technicians. The purpose is to reduce operational mistakes by focusing on human and organizational factors that affect operations. There are twelve causes for aircraft maintenance technicians include: 1) Lack of Communication, 2) Complacency, 3) Lack of Knowledge, 4) Distractions, 5) Lack of Teamwork, 6) Fatigue), 7) Lack of Resources, 8) Pressure, 9) Lack of Assertiveness, 10) Stress, 11) Lack of Awareness, and 12) Norms. These guidelines are served to for solve factors and the organization must be able to identify and locate all 12 hazard factors for aircraft maintenance personnel. In addition, the organization should have close and appropriate supervision, a system to check, prevent and correct personnel errors that may be caused by such factors, including strengthening awareness and a strong safety culture.
