AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF THAI SONG “WAN GOEI TUEN” TRANSLATION INTO CHINESE

Abstract

            This research aimed to explore methods used to translate the lyrics of “Wan Goei Tuen” song from Thai language to Chinese language. The data used in the study was “Wan Goei Tuen” song composed by Gungun Preechawuttikhun and translated into Chinese language in https://www.youtube.com by 4 translators named NongBaiTong, STnakrit, GO and Baiya Chen using a purposive sampling method. The research was conducted based on qualitative approach to explore methods used by the 4 translators. Data were presented using descriptive analysis. The research results showed that the 4 translators used 7 methods as follow: 1) literal translation, 2) extension translation, 3) translation by omission, 4) translation by substitution with words or groups of words, 5) translation by changing the structure of phrases or sentences, 6) translation by comparison, and 7) translation by other methods. The most common method used was translation by changing the structure of phrases or sentences.
