The Development of a Practice Manual for Performing the Kong Wong Yai in the Song Ching Mulong, Chan Diao, for Piphat Ensemble Students in the Music Education Program at Phetchaburi Rajabhat University Based on Davies' Concept

Abstract
This study aimed to 1) develop and determine the efficiency of a practice manual for performing the Kong Wong Yai in the song Ching Mulong, Chan Diao, based on Davies’ concept; 2) compare students’ Kong Wong Yai performance skills before and after using the practice manual; and 3) examine students’ satisfaction with the manual. The target group consisted of seven third-year Piphat ensemble students majoring in Music Education at Phetchaburi Rajabhat University who performed the Kong Wong Yai. The study employed a one-group pretest–posttest experimental design. The research instruments were 1) the Kong Wong Yai practice manual, 2) a performance skills assessment form, and 3) a satisfaction questionnaire. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, dependent-samples t-test, and the E1/E2 efficiency index. The findings revealed that 1) the practice manual achieved an efficiency score of 80.25/82.67, exceeding the established criterion of 80/80; 2) students’ Kong Wong Yai performance skills after using the manual were significantly higher than before using it at the .05 level; and 3) students’ satisfaction with the manual was at a high level. These findings indicate that the practice manual designed according to Davies’ concept can systematically enhance Kong Wong Yai performance skills, particularly through demonstration, sub-skill practice, guided feedback, and the integration of sub-skills into complete musical performance.
