Mechanisms and Channels for Monitoring Local Administration Organizations by Chiang Mai Youths

Abstract

The objectives of this research were (1) to investigate mechanisms and channels for monitoring local administration organizations by the youths in Chiang Mai province; (2) to conduct research to develop the monitoring mechanisms and channels for the youths; and (3) to enhance the skills in monitoring the local administration organizations in the youths. There were representatives from four schools in Chiang Mai participating in this project. The data were collected from recording and observing their participation in the project, a focus group discussion involving representatives from both teachers and students, and the pre-test and post-test administered to the participating students. The study results revealed that (1) test scores on monitoring local administration organizations of students in the schools that organized activities focusing on student participation in all steps of the activities were significantly higher than the counterpart scores of students in the schools that only the teachers initiated the activities for students; (2) Each school conducted activities with the local administration organizations in the area; and (3) each school issued regulations concerning corruption prevention, which had received the approval of school members. There should be a non-partisan agency providing knowledge about the roles of the youths in correctly monitoring local administration organizations. The facilitating factors for the youths to have an interest in monitoring the organizations were public relations and campaigns to disseminate knowledge through online social media.
