Factors Affecting the Lifestyle of Generation Y in the Rural Society of Northern and North-Eastern Thailand: A Case Study of Service-Learning Areas of Graduate Volunteer Students, Thammasat University

Abstract

This research aimed to explore factors affecting the lifestyle of generation Y in the rural society of Northern and North-Eastern Thailand.This study is a quantitative research. Quantitative data were collected by questionnaire from 383 samples, aged 18 to 37 years in 2018 and living in the service-learning areas of Thammasat University graduate volunteer students. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis (Enter Method). The results showed that factors affecting the activity aspect of lifestyle at the 0.05 level of significance were the following: age, educational level, main occupation, average monthly income, and the impact from the state policy. Factors affecting the interest aspect of lifestyle at the 0.05 level of significance were the following: educational level, main occupation, being member of a community group or organization, the impact from the state policy, number of access channels to information and concepts and roles of modern development. Factors affecting the opinion aspect of lifestyle at the 0.05 level of significance were the following: region, educational level, main occupation, being member of a community group or organization, and the impact from the state policy. Also, factors affecting the overall or all three aspects of lifestyle at the 0.05 level of significance were the following: educational level, main occupation, being member of a community group or organization, the impact from the state policy, and number of access channels to information and concepts and roles of modern development. Therefore, the results of this research are useful for understanding the factors affecting the lifestyle of generation Y and provide the appropriate development guidelines for the lifestyle of generation Y in case study areas.
