Context and Tend of Investment in Luang Prabang City, Lao People’ Democratic Repulbic

The purpose of this research is to study the context and trend of investment in Luang Prabang city, Lao People’s Democratic Republic. This research is qualitative research in which in-depth interviews, focus-group conversations, and brainstorming were used to collect the data. The target group consisted of 50 participants who were administrators in different divisions and relevant government scholars, representatives of investment promotion and management committees, representatives of One Stop Service, representatives of investors, representatives of international organizations, and representatives of citizens. The data was checked by data triangulation, and content analysis was applied for data analysis. The results showed that there are 3 types of investment contexts in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR: (1) investments that use the state budget to carry out projects that must be approved by parliament. (2) private investment is an investor investment through the planning department and must be approved by the governor of Luang Prabang and (3) Investment by receiving foreign funding is internationally funded to carry out projects. The investment trends showed that overall, the fast-growing business included (1) tourism business, (2) beauty business, (3) transportation business, (4) consumer goods business, (5) infrastructure development business, (6) automotive and automotive equipment business, and (7) fresh & frozen food business
