Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines to find solutions and possibilities to create an urban agricultural area for urban people in Thailand by studying the theory and research related to the urban farming concept. To improve the food security of Thais living in urban areas, the researchers investigate the viability of establishing urban agriculture, assess the location's suitability, choose the site for the pilot project, gather data from various sources, and offer guidelines for the development of an urban agricultural area. Tha Phra District in Bangkok's Yai District was identified by the study as one place that has the potential and compatibility for development as an urban agricultural area. It is the area where food hoarding was found during the city's lockdown due to the impact of the 2019-2020 coronavirus outbreak. Additionally, Tha Phra area contains a lot of undeveloped wastelands and has the potential for residential development, including projects around the sky train stations. As the result, the guidelines for the development of urban agricultural areas are presented to increase food security. The development includes developing good food distribution centers for crises and change; developing housing and environment to support growth and meet the development potential surrounding the sky train stations; and the developing integrated commerce to promote economic activities around the station including creating identity and attraction for the city to promote tourism and develop new forms of activities including the participation of the community in building food security and their income.
