บทคัดย่อ
บทความวิจัยฉบับนี้เป็นการสำรวจการส่งเสริมสิทธิของกลุ่มผู้มีความหลากหลายทางเพศในสหรัฐอเมริกาสมัยประธานาธิบดีบารัค โอบามา (ค.ศ. 2009-2017) โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาว่าประธานาธิบดีโอบามาได้ดำเนินการในเชิงนโยบายประการใดบ้างทั้งในระดับชาติและนานาชาติ การศึกษานี้ใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพโดยการวิจัยเชิงเอกสารเป็นหลัก ผลการศึกษาพบว่าในสมัยของประธานาธิบดีโอบามามีการผลักดันกฎหมายที่เป็นการขจัดการเลือกปฏิบัติต่อผู้มีความหลากหลายทางเพศในระดับรัฐบาลกลางหลายฉบับ รวมถึงการขจัดการเลือกปฏิบัติในการจ้างงาน และมีการผลักดันเรื่องการส่งเสริมสิทธิของผู้มีความหลากหลายทางเพศในเวทีนานาชาติ อย่างไรก็ดี อาจมองได้ว่าการผลักประเด็นเรื่องสิทธิมนุษยชนของผู้มีความหลากหลายทางเพศในระดับระหว่างประเทศเป็นการกระทำเพื่อกลบเกลื่อนการละเมิดสิทธิมนุษยชนในด้านอื่นของสหรัฐอเมริกา
