The Lesson of Conservation Architectures’ Renovation along Ratchadamnoen Road: Case Studies of Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall and Bangkok City Library

Abstract

This article was to analyse the regulations of Ratchadamnoen’s buildings group, in condition of
architectural elements and condition of building laws. These regulations will lead to guidelines for renovating
Ratchadamnoen’s buildings group in the future. By using method of field research, studying architectural
drawings and interview. After the study, the regulations for renovate this group of buildings can be separate in 2 parts, exterior and interior. The exterior part is about strictly regulations from crown property and Thailand building laws that strictly concern about architectural elements such as exterior materials, colors, doors and windows’ type. The interior part is more flexible in topics of design and structures. In conclusion, renovating these group of buildings have to consider about laws and consistency with surroundings.
