Revitalization of Seaside Community: The Case Study of a Seaside Community, Si Racha Municipality, Si Racha District, Chonburi Province

Abstract

This study aims to investigate settlement patterns, physical characteristics, economic and social conditions, community environments, values, and problems within residential areas of coastal communities in the Si Racha Municipal area. This will lead to the proposal of guidelines for the rehabilitation of coastal community areas within the Si Racha Municipality. The study employs methods including document analysis, surveys, questionnaire data collection from 116 samples, data analysis using SPSS software, and in-depth interviews with Si Racha Municipality officials and coastal community leaders.

Research shows the coastal community has a unique architectural style featuring local materials in its structures, colors, and decorations, offering scenic sea views of the settlement. The predominant building colors are the natural shades of local materials, mainly deep browns blacks and grays Culturally significant are the 'Kong Khao' tradition and the Samut Dam Shrine, with its traditional Chinese architecture and historical significance. Additionally, Koh Loy Public Park is integral to daily life and connects the community with its surroundings. Consequently, the study reveals a clear relationship between the coastal community, its environment, and resident satisfaction. The local people want a collaborative approach to community revitalization and urge government support through incentives, such as low-interest loans for infrastructure and recognition for maintaining clean homes, considering both direct and indirect community impacts.
