Usage Behavior of Spaces within Residential Condominiums and Shopping Centers that Provide Pet-friendly Facilities

Abstract

This research aimed to study the behavior of pet owners living in condominium projects and shopping malls that provide pet-friendly facilities. It also analyzed problems and obstacles related to pet accommodation and proposed guidelines for area development. The study employed surveys, observations, and questionnaires from 198 residents. Descriptive statistics were used, along with qualitative analysis from interviews with project developers and pet experts.

The results of the analysis found that most of the residents in the condominium projects that allow pets, the case studies of the Ashton residence 41 project, the Muniq Langsuan project, and the Scope Promsri project, live as tenants. The reason for choosing the residence is the location of the project near various facilities for pets. Most of the pet owners have dogs. They live together and spend 5-7 hours/day with their pets. They often do activities together, such as walking or running for exercise in the morning/evening, taking their pets to the toilet, and taking their pets to use pet services. They often share the space both inside and outside the residence with their pets. The space must be designed to accommodate groups of pet owners in terms of size, location, and function. In addition, there must be facilities within the project or around the project, such as restaurants, cafes, pet shops, and pet clinics. To accommodate the behavior of residents who keep pets, there must be guidelines for area development and management that are appropriate for the behavior of people and pets.
