Factors Affecting Students’ Motivation in Chinese Language Learning at Private Bilingual School A

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the factors affecting the motivation for learning Chinese subjects of bilingual private school students A and 2) to present guidelines for creating incentives for teaching and learning Chinese language of private bilingual school                      A students. This research was mixed research. The population consisted of 130 students in grades 1-6 in a private bilingual school A. The instruments used were questionnaires for quantitative data collection and unstructured interviews. The statistics used include percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, T-test and One-way ANOVA. The results of this research were found that 1) Factors affecting the motivation for learning Chinese subjects of private bilingual school students A consisted of personal factors such as gender, age, class level. Overall internal factors were at a moderate level. The overall external factors were at a high level, and 2) 9 guidelines for motivation in teaching Chinese language courses as follows:(1) There was publicity for the benefits of learning Chinese in the future. (2) Point out the understanding and meaning of content in movies and media. (3) Point out progress. (4) Support learning competitions. (5) Create a variety of media and modern. (6) focus on the Chinese language. (7) Showing families the benefits and importance of the Chinese language. (8) Chinese textbooks should be adapted to the current situation, and (9) teaching entirely online.
