Main Article Content
Abstract
This article is to analyze identities of the Mien ethnic group in Huai-chom-phu Subdistrict Mueang District Chiang Rai Province. Qualitative research methods were used by studying documents and In- depth interview with 23 people who had important information in the research area. The study of rituals in the life cycle and festivals of the Mien ethnic group shows six key parts of their identity: beliefs, ritual leaders, special foods, clothing, ritual tools, and music. These reflect the unique traits of the Mien people, especially their patriarchal society that worships both gods and ancestors. This shows the connection between the spiritual world, with gods and ancestors, and the human world, where people receive guidance and protection from these spirits.
