บทคัดย่อ
การวิจัยนี้มุ่งวิเคราะห์บทบาทของพระสงฆ์รูปสำคัญของภาคเหนือตอนบนนับตั้งแต่ช่วงหลังจากที่พระครูบาเจ้าศรีวิชัยถึงแก่มรณภาพจนถึงปัจจุบัน โดยเน้นการวิจัยเอกสาร ผลการวิจัยพบว่าบทบาทที่สำคัญประกอบด้วย (1) การเปลี่ยนแปลงทางวัฒนธรรมเพื่อกลับไปเชิดชูความรุ่งเรืองของวัฒนธรรมล้านนา (2) การพัฒนาทรัพยากรมนุษย์ (3) การปกป้องทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ (4) การสาธารณกุศลสงเคราะห์ และ (5) การพัฒนาวัดในฐานะที่เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการสนับสนุนการท่องเที่ยวเชิงจิตวิญญาณ โดยเครื่องมือที่สำคัญที่พระสงฆ์เหล่านั้นใช้ ได้แก่ การใช้สถานะหรือความรู้เฉพาะทางของตนเองที่ช่วยสร้างเครือข่ายการพัฒนาที่เข้มแข็ง โครงสร้างพื้นฐานด้านการพัฒนาที่มีอยู่แล้ว การก่อตั้งองค์กรการพัฒนาที่สามารถดำเนินการได้อย่างคล่องตัว และการสื่อสารกับสังคมอย่างเพียงพอ ขณะที่ปัจจัยที่กระทบต่อความสำเร็จของพระสงฆ์เหล่านั้น ได้แก่ การยึดติดกับตัวบุคคลและการขาดแคลนทายาท ความไม่สัมพันธ์กันระหว่างแนวทางการเปลี่ยนแปลงกับกลุ่มเป้าหมาย และบทบาทของผู้มีอิทธิพลในพื้นที่
