Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study students’ ability to solve word- problems and to investigate their satisfaction towards the learning strategy and the use of frequent practice using the bar model. The 34 specimens were primary-5 classrooms of Bantabrang School in Chonburi Province in the academic year of 2016. The research tools were comprised of 20 lesson plans, demonstrating word-problem cards, word-problem practice cards, an achievement test, and a satisfaction test. The statistics used to analyze the effectiveness of the strategy and practice were mean, percentage, standard deviation, and dependent samples t-test.
The experimental results indicated that the students’ score of word-problem solving after the experiment was higher at the significance level of .05, but the mean score was not greater than 60 percent. Moreover, the students’ satisfaction toward the frequent practice by using the bar model was high.
