OUTSOURCING: A CASE STUDY BETWEEN PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED AND PORT AUTHORITY OF THAILAND

Abstract
The purpose of this research was to study 1) the concepts and approaches of outsourcing ; 2) to study the Influential environment for outsourcing; 3) to study whether outsourcing can provide a unique competitive advantage; and 4) to study the risks from outsourcing.This research uses qualitative research methods falling under the category of a case study between PTT Public Company Limited and Port Authority of Thailand. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and non-participatory observation. Documentary research was also conducted. The target group used in this research is Executives, operational staff and there outsource of PTT Public Company Limited and Port Authority of Thailand relating to outsourcing that provide services for 20 people were subjected to inductive analysis and cross-case study synthesis.
The research found that outsourcing concept is to manage external resource for operation. There is a relationship of employment that has a contract to transfer activities of a supportive nature. Influential environment for outsourcing include costs reduction, special skill, increased flexibility, union power, economy, social, Legal and technology. Moreover outsourcing can provide a unique competitive advantage to PTT Public Company Limited. Risks arising from outsourcing of Port Authority of Thailand and PTT Public Company Limited include Strategic risks, operational risks, result risks and transactional risks.
