COMPONENTS OF DESIRABLE PERSONALITY FOR AVIATION CAREERS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Personality is an important factor influencing success in the aviation industry, which demands safety, reliability, trust, meticulousness, and the highest level of service. The objective of this article was to analyze the desirable personality components for each position in the aviation profession, such as pilots, flight attendants and ground staff, through a review of literature, concepts and relevant theories. The analysis was conducted using document-based research integrating psychological concepts, including the Holland’s RIASEC model, the Johari Windows model, and the Big Five Personality Traits, as well as the integration of the desirable attributes of aviation personnel (8 Core Competencies) defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The analysis revealed that each aviation position requires specific personality traits that influence knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities, such as communication, decision-making and the management of unforeseen situations. Therefore, the systematic development of both internal and external personality traits is essential to enhance work efficiency by fostering desirable attributes, which can reduce risks in aviation organizations where safety is the highest priority. This article thus proposes guidelines for integrating personality development in accordance with desirable attributes and human resource management principles to ensure sustainable professionalism in the aviation industry.
