THE EXISTENCE OF BUDDHAHOOD

Abstract

Buddhahood is a supreme principle of both Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism, which are of conflict in terms of principle and interpretation. Theravada Buddhism, which is original, accepts the Buddhahood in terms of an ascetic practicing himself to be the Buddha or in terms of enlightenment defined to the Buddha and denying Buddhahood which specified to self. On the other hand, Mahayana Buddhism accepts the Buddhahood in terms of being essence of mind or pure mind existing in everywhere, every time, everything, every being, and existing sustainably. The conflict leads to criticism over centuries. In the present time, both sects attempts to get point of agreement but they do not show reasons and conditions leading to the conflict and open their mind to get reasons of one another in order that it can lead Buddhism to prosperity further.
