NAN CHRONICLE: HISTORY OF DEVELOPMENT AND DEVELOPMENT TOWARDS LEARNING OF NAN COMMUNITY

Abstract

Abstract

         This research aims 1) to study the history and foundation of the Nan Literary Chronicle, 2) to transliterate and analyze the Nan Literary Chronicle, and 3) to develop the study of the Nan Chronicle’s local curriculum. This is mixed-method research that consists of qualitative, documentary, and action research. The key informants include the experts in transliteration and translation in the Lanna language, experts in developing the curriculum of the Nan Primary Education Area, 7 experts in Nan local history,                           6 experts in curriculum development, and 5 experts in examining the local curriculum. Data collection tools are in-depth interviews, small group meetings, and the model of operating in developing the local curriculum, and those data have been analyzed by descriptive means.

          The research results found that 1) the history and foundation of recording the Nan Chronicles was created by the 63^rd King Suriyapongpharitdet of Nan, who assigned Saen Luang Ratchasomphan to compose and compile from various Palm-leaf manuscripts to fully complete the contents into Dhamma Lanna script. 2) The transliteration of the Nan Chronicles has three forms of variation: (1) variation according to the letter-by-letter form, (2) variation of native letters according to the sounds in the local language, (3) variation of local words to match words of the Thai official language. The transliteration uses the principle of changing local words to match words in the Thai official language. 3) Developing a local curriculum for learning Nan Chronicles is the development of a curriculum that transliterates the Nan Chronicles through the analysis process and synthesized content to be appropriate for students; it can be divided into three processes: (1) analyze the main content and essences from the Nan Chronicles, (2) develop the local curriculum for learning the Nan Chronicles, (3) check the local curriculum for learning.
