THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ENRICHMENT CURRICULUM TO ENHANCE CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE FOR THE STUDENT TEACHERS IN THE SOCIAL STUDIES PROGRAM
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research article aimed to (1) examine the efficiency of a supplementary curriculum designed to enhance cultural intelligence among social studies pre-service teachers, (2) investigate the effectiveness of the curriculum, and (3) implement the developed curriculum with students in basic education. The study employed a research and development (R&D) methodology consisting of four phases: needs analysis, curriculum design and development, implementation and evaluation, and revision and quality validation. The participants were 149 social studies pre-service teachers from Srinakharinwirot University, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included an achievement test, a social skills assessment reflecting five dimensions of cultural intelligence, a questionnaire, and a behavioral observation form.
The research findings revealed that the developed curriculum achieved an efficiency value of 84.75/89.40, which exceeded the established criterion of 80/80. The comparison of pre-test and post-test scores indicated a statistically significant increase in students’ learning achievement after participating in the program. Evaluation of social skills across the five dimensions showed significant improvement, with the highest gains observed in acceptance of diversity and collaboration. Behavioral observation and reflective feedback confirmed that learners exhibited more positive learning attitudes and behaviors. Furthermore, when the curriculum was extended to 400 students in basic education, similar patterns of improvement were found in both learning achievement and social skills. The results suggested that the supplementary curriculum was appropriate, effective, and practically applicable for integration in educational settings.
