An Investigation of Sociological Predictors of Sexual Media Use Behavior among Upper Secondary School Students

The purpose of this research was to study the multiple correlation between sexual media use behavior among upper secondary school students and peer attachment, parent attachment, father’s level of education, mother’s level of education, grade point average, religiosity, opportunity to access electronic media, and first time experience with sexual media use variables and to construct a multiple regression equation. The sample consisted of 177 upper secondary school students from schools under the jurisdiction of the Office of Basic Education Commission, Chon Buri, Thailand, academic year 2009. The research instrument was a questionnaire of variables related to sexual media use behavior among upper secondary school students. Descriptive data were produced using SPSS, multiple correlation analysis was analyzed by PRELIS, and multiple regression analysis was analyzed by LISREL 8.80 student edition. Results indicated that peer attachment (PEA), parent attachment (PAA), grade point average (GPA), religiosity (REL), and opportunity to access electronic media (OAE) accounted for 52.70 percent of the total variance of sexual media use behavior (multiple R of 0.73, p<.05). The effect size of the coefficients of determination (R2) was 0.50.
