Abstract

A Study of Relationship between Personality and Thai Language Use Behavior in On-line Social Networks

The objective of this research was to study the relationship between personality and Thai language use behaviors within on-line social networks. The selected personality traits were Extraversion and Agreeableness. Language use behaviors were frequency of words per sentence, use of polite and impolite words, slang, positive and negative words, errors, reduplicative words, sound words, and emoticons. Research instrument involved: 1. Demographic questionnaires 2. Personality tests, and 3. Thai language use questionnaires
Results of the study were as follows:
1. Extraversion correlated positively with frequency of words per sentence (r = 0.53), positive
words (r =0.28), and slang words (r =0.23).
2. Agreeableness correlated positively with polite words (r =0.29), positive words (r =0.23),
but negatively with impolite words (r = 0.46).
