Ecological Design in the Case Study of Shoes from Leather Scraps

Abstract

The objective of this research are 1) to study on information and direction for reusing scraps of genuine leather; 2) to design shoes that are made from scraps of genuine leather; and 3) to evaluate the satisfaction toward the prototype shoes from scraps of genuine leather. This research work uses the mixed research methodology. Key informants are 3 shoemakers, and 5 experts in designing and shoe making. The samples are working adults who prefer to wear genuine leather shoes in Phra Khanong District, Bangkok, which are 15 male and 15 female or 30 in total, selected with purposive sampling technique. The tools used in this research are questionnaire for the evaluation of shoes from scraps of genuine leather and questionnaire for the evaluation of satisfaction. The statistical values used for the analysis are percentages, means and standard deviations. The findings from the research are as follows. 1) Scraps of leather are scraps of tanned cow leather
that are shiny and in medium and small sizes, having some blemishes and are left over from the sewing of the front part of shoes. The leather scraps in blue color are for male wearer and the leather scraps in brown color are for female wearers.
