THE RESEARCH OF CLOTHING DESIGN METHOD FOR ALPHA GENERATION WITH EXPANDABLE INNOVATION

Abstract

The physical growth of infants and children leads to rapid production in the child fashion industry which negatively affects the environment. This article is a part of the Alpha generation’s casual wear and branding study that aims to invent environmental-friendly child clothes with expandable innovation to prolong product utility. In the research, the researcher used a questionnaire survey to collect data from the sample size of 71 and a Paper doll data set to analyze clothing elements and customer target’s style as the support for expandable apparel design.

The result indicates the significant relation between the Alpha generation’s clothing and the Millennials generation’s styles and fashion interests. The Millennials group normally selects and purchases clothes for Alpha generation with the concerning points of designs which are 1) Clothing style: Minimal style and Street Style 2) Cloth silhouettes: Straight or I-Line and A-Line shape 3) Colors: Pastel color and Colorful and 4) Design for utility: Physically expandable clothing, Adjustable clothing, and Modular clothing.

The clothing element design research shows that knitted clothes in accordion pleat design with entire Eco Vero material contribute the highest flexibility, lightweight, soft and cool creating a comfortable feeling for the wearer in a high-temperature environment, additionally, Eco Vero material can be produced as small and even thread preventing lint and running cloth which is suitable to create expandable clothes for children.
