The Radgrand Cabaret: Creating A stage play to reflect the devaluation of the LGBTQ+ community

Articles from creative work was aimed to investigate social matters of LGBTQ+ community in order to create a stage play called ‘The Radgrand Cabaret’, which reflected on social devaluation to the LGBTQ+.Creating a stage play using the collaborative process of a group of creators (Devised), where the creative group and the process participants share their own direct experiences and those of those around them. Collection of information on related issues and operational insights In collaboration with Isan LGBTQ+ Association, social devaluation, sexual preferences, abilities and the way to live together among diversity were presented through The Radgrand Cabaret.
The findings showed that social devaluation to LGBTQ+ community occurred in the society yet was overlooked, leading to certain LQBTQ+ people being mentally unprepared and having to suppress the expression of their sexual preferences. It was suggested that the society and the LGBTQ+ community itself should be aware of and respect basic human right of expressing their desire including sexual preferences. The stage play echoed the matters of social devaluation to LGBTQ+ community through two perspectives: beauty standard and appearance and the expression of sexual preferences. Reflecting on these social matters though a stage play was hoped to be another force in driving Thai society to be more accepting and aware of the deserved human rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
