Abstract

This research aims to examine the feasibility of developing Lepironia articulata fibers, a native plant of Narathiwat Province, as an alternative textile material. The study
focuses on enhancing the properties and quality of these fibers to ensure their suitability for applications in the textile industry and lifestyle fashion product design. The ultimate goal is to meet the broader consumer demand, add value to local resources, and promote economic growth within the community. The research employs a qualitative
methodology, utilizing questionnaires and in-depth interviews as the primary data collection tools. The study evaluates the suitability of Lepironia articulata fibers for
textile applications based on the perspectives of textile experts, designers, and entrepreneurs in the textile industry. The research includes a qualitative research
method with two processes. (1) The literature study examines the quality of Lipao grass and the development of fiber size to become thicker for use in textile production. (2)
The design experiment involves combining Lipao grass fiber with other yarns. The research reveals that Lipao grass is a biennial plant, a type of fern found in Narathiwas province. It can be divided into three types: Lipao Khao, Lipao Yong, and Lipaopar. It can be concluded that Lipaopar is the best option for development into new textiles. After more than ten peelings, it is submerged in mud and lye water for one hour to one night to prepare it for weaving. (2) The results of combining Lipao grass with other yarns are as follows: (2.1) Lipao yarn with silk creates fabrics that are shiny and sleek. (2.2) Lipao with cotton produces fabrics with matted and delicate effects. (2.3) Lipao with linen results in fabrics that are curved, structured, and possess some stretch quality. These different effects can be utilized in fashion and lifestyle product design. However, the most preferred choice among the expert panel is Lipao with grass, which is deemed most suitable for Generation X.
