The objective of this action research is to investigate the design of a learning process that will facilitate the development of acting students through using the Enneagram theory. The researcher observed a lack of thorough analysis and comprehension of characters among the new generation of acting students. The performance that was presented to the audience was significantly affected by this issue. The researcher recognized the significance of developing alternative tools that acting students could utilize to gain a comprehensive understanding of characters. He recognized that characters are human beings with rationales for their actions, motivations for their decisions, relationships with other characters, perspectives on the world, and ultimate desires (super objective). The Enneagram, a system for comprehending human self-awareness, was employed to accomplish this. This system classifies individuals into nine primary personality types.
The researchers designed a learning process based on three key components: 1) Knowledge of Performing Arts, 2) Enneagram theory, and 3) Experiential Learning. They found that designing a learning process for performing arts through the Enneagram theory, with a focus on allowing the target group to learn through direct experiences, was effective and yielded significant results for the target group. Overall, the target group gained a good understanding of the Enneagram theory and could apply them to analyze and understand characters. Moreover, over 95% of the drama students expressed interest in applying the Enneagram theory to their future work in performing arts.
