Abstract

This study had the objective to develop and evaluate an instructional model for dance education based on a multicultural educational framework to enhance cross-cultural skills for students in the field of dance and performance. Research and development methodology was employed in four phases, including conceptual framework development, model drafting, model implementation, and analysis of implementation outcomes. The sample in this study comprised 18 students in the field of dance and performance. The research instruments included 1. an interview form for identifying problem contexts; 2. a cross-cultural competence assessment; 3. a focus group discussion log; and 4. culture knowledge test. The statistics, including percentage, mean, standard deviation, and paired t-test were employed in the study. The CEICB Model consists of principles, objectives, learning activities, a 5-step learning process, roles of stakeholders, outcomes, and conditions for success. Objective 2 was the assessment of cross-cultural skills, and it was found that after the model was used, students had higher skills in all areas, namely cultural awareness, with a mean of 4.08; cultural bias reduction, with a mean of 4.30; cultural integration, with a mean of 4.29; and cross-cultural adaptation, with a mean of 4.21. Considering all 15 indicators, the results pointed out that a significant increase in development in all indicators was found.
