Guidelines for the Development of Community-based Creative Tourism: Sago Palm Forest, Pakpra Canal, Phatthalung Province

Abstract

This article present the understanding of benefits, values of sago palm and to study the creative
tourism patterns that were related to lifestyle of villagers by community participation.The research took
through interviews and focus discussion of 5 groups: 1) Sago Productivies Learning Group 2) Rice Growing
Group 3) Traditional Fishing Tools Crafting Group 4) Coastal Rice Farming Group 5) Artisanal Fishery Group;
they jointly designed the creative travel routes. The knowledge and understanding of sago palm, it was
found that all 5 groups were well aware of the situation of decreasing area of sago palm.The study of creative
tourism patterns were as follows: Group 1 activities as making sago flour and processing into sweets, homestay,
trap fishing. Group 2 activities as growing rice, making cookies from rice, making soap. Group 3 activities as
making fishing gears such as fish trap. Group 4 activities as Coastal Rice Farming, taking photograph. Group


5 activities as boating services and collecting fish/ taking photograph. Tourists were able to choose to
participate in 5 groups as follows:One or Two Days Trip, Management of Sago Palm Forest in accordance
with Lifestyle of Villagers by community for community in a sustainable manner.
