Abstract

This study aims at studying the process of managing music and art activities for the elderly and investigating the results of the activities during the COVID-19 pandemic as a case study of Baan Sudthavas Chalerm Prakiatr Foundation. The sample were 5 elderly caretakers from Baan Sudthavas Chalerm Prakiatr Foundation, Ongkharak District, Nakhon Nayok Province. The research instruments were 8 action plans for music including art activities and questionnaire items about the participants’ satisfactions towards the activities. The study revealed that the processes of music and art activities during the COVID-19 pandemic consisted of the following 3 key steps; preparation and planning, workshop, and activity wrap-up. The research also showed that elderly caretakers could act as a researcher who needed to facilitate music and art activities, assisted and guided the elderly throughout the sessions. In addition, instead of the researchers collecting the data themselves, having the caregivers directly collect the data could, to some extent, result in valid data as the caregivers had a better understanding on each of elderly's personality and behaviour. If the researchers talked with the elderly, they tended to be scared of answering the questions and biased against satisfaction score. This might cause the information to be unrealistic. With the processes, it was found that the elder caregivers could be research assistants as well. In addition, overall, the elderly were also satisfied with the music and art activities at a very satisfying level.
