ASEAN Painting: Perspectives in Reflections of Visual Culture Identity

Abstract
This article aims to study and analyze ASEAN artists’ perspectives in creation reflections of visual culture identity on subject matters, contents, identities, and characteristic styles to form the information of the painting creation and reflect the identity of visual culture. The findings of the study were as follows. 1. For the quantitative data analysis, there were a total of 61 paintings with contents in the natural, human and cultural dimensions and their quantities were not different. Concerning meaning expression, this included sight, figures and grounds, light and shadow, and position and proportion. However, their movement was not presented while acrylic colors were widely used. Regarding artistic models, they derived from Eastern perceptive cultures as well as international styles. 2. For the qualitative data analysis, the synthesized data were used to create the holistic knowledge by conducting creative research, adaptive and integrative experiments, studies for solving problems on aesthetic contents and meanings so as to represent the cultural characteristic in a new context.
