An Analysis of Pepper Growers' Ability to Practice Palian Pepper Plots to Safe Plot Standard
Main Article Content
Abstract
The development of Palian pepper production potential for local farmers and enterprises can drive the value chain in the area. Conducting problem analysis and assessing farmer potential are effective methods to increase production and ensure Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards. To achieve this, 36 farmers were selected from pepper growers in three districts of Trang Province and surveyed through focus group discussions, interviews, and questionnaires. Results indicated that the major problems facing pepper growers in the targeted areas were substandard production and output, pepper diseases, and a lack of systematic data collection. The assessment of farmers' potential also revealed a lack of knowledge and skills for the proper use of pesticides, packaging, and data recording. To enhance the Safe Plot Standard, it is crucial to focus on addressing issues that are outside farmers' control. This can be achieved by educating them on how to manage post-harvest products, particularly in terms of packaging for sale, and urging them to adhere to the Safe Plot Standard guidelines while keeping accurate records.
