โปรตุเกสเป็นชาวตะวันตกชาติแรกที่เข้ามายังสยาม ราชสำนักทั้ง 2 อาณาจักรได้ ดำเนินความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างกัน ตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2054 การดำเนินความสัมพันธ์ดังกล่าวส่งผล ให้มีการติดต่อค้าขาย การเผยแผ่ศาสนา เกิดการอพยพของชาวโปรตุเกสมาตั้งถิ่นฐานยัง กรุงศรีอยุธยา ดังที่ปรากฏชุมชนของชาวโปรตุเกสในจังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา โปรตุเกส ยังส่งผ่านความรู้ เทคโนโลยี และวัฒนธรรมอันหลากหลายแก่สยาม กลายเป็นมรดกตกทอด มาแต่ครั้งกรุงศรีอยุธยา ดังเช่น ความรู้ทางภูมิศาสตร์ แผนที่ เทคโนโลยีการเดินเรือ การผลิตอาวุธสงคราม วิถีชีวิตและวัฒนธรรม รวมไปถึงแรงบันดาลใจการสร้างป้อม กำแพงเมือง และสถาปัตยกรรม อันเกิดจากการผสมผสานทางวัฒนธรรมสยามจนกลายเป็นเอกลักษณ์ ของสยาม มรดกความทรงจำดังที่กล่าวมาในข้างต้นยังปรากฏร่องรอยอย่างชัดเจน ในรูป ของโบราณสถาน ลักษณะทางสถาปัตยกรรม วิถีชีวิตและวัฒนธรรมมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน

The heritage had taken place since Ayutthaya period, such as the knowledge of geography, map, marine technology, weapon production, Inspiration to build fortress and city wall, architecture, the way of life and culture. The heritage in memory above was impression in the form of ancient remains, architecture characteristic, The way of life and culture of the present day.
