Abstract
The rescarch pulposed to study relational structure between the northern Thai water-contained pots and aesthetic characters.
The samples were 36 models of northem Thai water-contained pots produced and sold during October 2002.
The research found that the pots can be categorized into z groups which mostly were found in original trait; complicated and ancient style. The pot aesthetic characters werc totally uni - tone original old styles as used to be in the past. color and texture were ignored. The pot forms were huge with high capacity and decorared with simply titted pattem on lids and shoulders of the pots. The pattems were clearly seen when uscd. The products lrorn Chiang Mai emphasized on texture, color and glazc. Meanwhile the ones from Sukhothai concentrated on form, various pattems and some sculptural arts that made interesting points. The relation between the pots and aesthetic characters was based on fblk ans decorating styles and the importance of ditTerent forms.
According to the pot characteristics, findings were categorized the pots into s groups which were original old style, general style, combination style, applied style and special decoration style. Most of the specimens were in the group of original old style and related at least 2 groups fully with local traits and folk arts.
