Abstract

              There are many Malay-Thai unauthorized migrant workers who are Patani
lValay ethnic from the lower soulhern Thailand working at Tom yam restaurants
all over Malaysia by Patani Malay entrepreneurs. Tom Yam restaurants are Thai
Ha al food business. This paper seeks to explain migrant networks were used
by Patani Malay workers in l\,4alaysia. lt draws on ethnographic fieldwork, at
Tom Yam restaurants in Kuala Lumpur with in-depih intervrew, participant
and non-partlcipant observations between Novernber 2008 and April 2009.
Migrant networks are important functions and effect outcomes in various stages
of the migration process among workers. lVigrant networks share and get involved
with the migration process and the way of llfe of their members in a multiple
levels and ways, both in Thailanci and lvlalaysia. There are not only positive roles
of migrant networks but also negative roles of migrant networks. These m grant
networks constitute a very important source of information about availability of
Job opportunities and economic resource in Malaysia but also are n shaping
life of Patani Malay workers in Malaysia.
