บทคัดย่อ
สยามช่วงทศวรรษ 2460 มีภาพยนตร์ยุคแรกเริ่มของโลกเข้ามาฉายตามโรงภาพยนตร์ โดยเฉพาะในกรุงเทพฯ อย่างสม่ำเสมอ ตัวอย่างหนึ่งที่แสดงให้เห็นความสำเร็จของธุรกิจจัดฉายและความนิยมต่อภาพยนตร์ในหมู่ผู้ชมคือการกำเนิดนิตยสารภาพยนตร์ขึ้นในสยาม บทความนี้พิจารณานิตยสารภาพยนตร์จากช่วงทศวรรษดังกล่าวในฐานะหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์ซึ่งได้บันทึกปฏิกิริยาของชาวสยามต่อภาพยนตร์ยุคแรกเริ่มของโลก โดยมีข้อเสนอว่า ในฐานที่ภาพยนตร์เป็นตัวแทนสำคัญของความทันสมัย การพิจารณาวัฒนธรรมแฟนภาพยนตร์ที่ถือกำเนิดขึ้นและถูกบันทึกไว้ในนิตยสารภาพยนตร์เหล่านี้ เราจะเห็นการตอบรับความทันสมัยอย่างกระตือรือร้นเกิดขึ้นในสยาม เกิดกระบวนการปรับเปลี่ยนความทันสมัยแบบสากลเข้าสู่บริบททางวัฒนธรรมของสยามเอง และเปิดโอกาสให้ชาวสยามทั่วไปที่เป็นแฟนภาพยนตร์ได้สัมผัสโลกกว้างที่น่าตื่นตา กระบวนการดังกล่าวเป็นส่วนหนึ่งที่ก่อให้เกิดพลวัตทางวัฒนธรรมซึ่งสามัญชนสยามเป็นผู้มีบทบาทสร้างสรรค์สำคัญในเวลาต่อมา
