The Building of a Political Bastion of the Kalptinan Family in Ubon Ratchathani Province from 1995 to 2023

Abstract
This research article aims to (1) the methods used in building the political bastion of the Kalptinan family in Ubon Ratchathani province from 1995 to 2023; studies (2) the political interactions at the area, locality, and national levels of the family under study in Ubon Ratchathani province from 1995 to 2023; and investigates (3) the national political role of the family under investigation in Ubon Ratchathani province from 1995 to 2023. The
technique of qualitative research was employed. Data were collected from the study of important documents and the technique of in-depth interview with ten related qualified persons.
Three focus group discussions were conducted with twenty-two subjects. Findings are as follows: (1) the methods of building the political bastion of the Kalptinan family was through close interactions with the residents in the area, popularity, and support from the residents in areas are still supported by the residents. The strategy for building the political bastion was the building of networks with the influence groups or capital groups. The political success stemmed from the adherence to the slogan of “Determined for Development, Dependable.” (2) The relationship between the local and the national level are based on the stable bastion in the locality fostered advantages in the national election. And
the characteristic of strong networks in the families and local political groups. (3) The national
political role are based on the strong because of the connection with the political party’s
policies and the local political groups played an important role in building the political bastion
and mobilizing the success of the political parties at the national level. However, the defeat at
a certain period was concerned with economic factors.
