การอยู่ร่วมกันในสังคมนั้น ทุกคนต่างมีหน้าที่คือ มีกิจที่จะต้องทำ มีกิจที่ควรทำ ไม่มีผู้ใดเลยที่ไม่มีหน้าที่ ทุกคนจึงพึงรู้จักหน้าที่ของตน และทำหน้าที่ของตนให้เต็มกำลังสติปัญญาความสามารถ ทหารก็เหมือนคนอื่น ๆ ในสังคมที่มีหน้าที่ต้องกระทำ ซึ่งหน้าที่ที่สำคัญที่สุดคือการปกป้องอิสรภาพของบ้านเกิดเมืองนอนไว้ให้ลูกหลาน การที่ทหารจะทำหน้าที่ดังกล่าวในยุคหลังความขัดแย้ง จำเป็นต้องรู้และเข้าใจถึงบริบทใหม่ของสังคมไทยที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไป เป็นสังคมแบบกึ่งเมืองกึ่งชนบท รวมทั้งบริบทด้านความมั่นคงและบริบทของการเมืองโลก ที่มีการจัดระเบียบโลกแบบพหุแกนอำนาจบนพื้นฐานการเมืองระหว่างประเทศแบบ 2 กิ่งก้านภายใต้สังคมแบบสองโลก (โลกจริงและโลกเสมือนจริง)  และต้องมีกรอบวิธีคิดใหม่ในการกำหนดปัญหาและภัยคุกคามที่จะเกิดขึ้นต่อประเทศไทย เพื่อช่วยให้สามารถกำหนดจุดยืนและบทบาทของทหารในสังคมไทยได้อย่างเหมาะสม รวมทั้งพร้อมที่จะจัดกำลังทหารเข้าร่วมรักษาสันติภาพระหว่างประเทศและช่วยเหลือประชาชน และที่สำคัญคือสามารถจัดเตรียมกำลังทหารที่เหมาะสมให้พร้อมเสมอที่จะทำหน้าที่หลักที่สำคัญที่สุดของทหารนั่นคือ ปกป้องอิสรภาพของบ้านเกิดเมืองนอนไว้ให้ลูกหลานของเราตลอดไป

Abstract

                Living together in society provides everyone with duties. Nobody was born without duties, therefore, everyone should be aware of their duties and put the best effort in completing it. The military is similar to others in the society has the duty to perform, and the most important duty is to protect the independence of our nation for the next generation. To perform the duty in the post-conflict era, the military must be aware of the new context of Thai society which has been changed to semi urban semi rural society. Also, the military must be aware of the new security context and global context of the multi-centric world order on the basis of dual core international politics with the existence of the two- world society; the real and the virtual world. The military needs to adjust the way of thinking in order to effectively identify the security issues and the national threats as well as the suitable stance and role of the military in Thai society and be able to prepare appropriate force to participate in the international peacekeeping operation and humanitarian assistance and to protect the independence of our nation for the next generation.
