“Chao Phor Mha Khaw”: Beliefs and Votive rites of the Phra That Chom Ping villagers in Na Kaeo Subdistrict, Koh Kha District, and Lampang Province

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to 1) investigate the elements of the Chao Phor Ma White Ceremonial Ritual, Ban Phra That Chom Ping, in the Na Kaew Subdistrict of Ko Kha District, Lampang Province, and 2)investigate the rituals and beliefs associated with the Chao Phor Ma White Ceremonies, Ban Phra That Chom Pi. Na Kaeo Subdistrict, Ko Kha District, Lampang Province. This research is a qualitative research. The findings indicated that knowledge of the rites practiced by the Phra That Chom Ping people from generation to generation, rituals are performed. Depending on the era, there could be subtle variations in the ritual process. Components of the ceremony could be added to conform to the culture. Additionally, the rituals continue to be performed according to the established customs, with participation demonstrating reverence for sacred objects and leading to a team effort to complete the ritual. Nowadays, the residents think that the godfather genuinely stays at the temple. This also led the locals to hold beliefs in other things, including beliefs in vows and supernatural events. Beliefs that natural disasters would harm houses, such as when there are summertime strong rainstorms. Therefore, the villagers have sworn to guard and guard when the storm arrives to do the alms ritual as mentioned, etc. These beliefs demonstrate that the villagers have anxieties and adhere to the beliefs that have been handed down from one generation to the next. Additionally, rituals and beliefs provide comfort. cultivate community harmony and love, and put it into practice every day As a result, the villagers respect and have faith in him. And is the main thought process for those in the community who adhere to such views.
