The Study of the Problems of Pre-Service Teachers of Art Education at the Faculty of Education, Ramkhamhaeng University

Abstract

In this research investigation, the researcher examines the problems of pre-service teachers of Art Education at the Faculty of Education, Ramkhamhaeng University in the first semester of the academic year 2019. The research instrument was a three-part questionnaire. Part One was the demographic data of the teachers under study. Part Two was a rating scale questionnaire eliciting problems related to field experience in the teaching profession of Art Education. Part Three concerned other opinions regarding field experience in the teaching profession. Findings are as follows. The first aspect was the factor affecting performance. The problem found at the highest level was the activities performed in a school (M = 4.11). The second aspect was the students. The problem found at the highest level was the students’ lack of interest in learning media (M = 3.89). The third aspect was the teachers’ workload. The problem found at the highest level was participation in school activities (M = 4.44). An opinion affecting the field experience of the teachers under investigation were that they were of the opinion that there was a lack of teachers in the field of Art Education. The school had an art learning area consisting of visual arts, music, and performing arts. However, pre-service teachers were assigned by their mentors to teach subjects or learning areas that were not relevant to their majors.
