Abstract

If happiness is the ultimate goal of human beings, the developmentparadigm needs to be rethought. Development should not only be abouteconomic prosperity - a material means of happiness, but should beconceptualized towards the goal of happiness that involves otheraspects than economic such as physical, mental, social and spiritual.Public policy schemes, therefore, need to be redesigned to increaseindividual and societal happiness. This was the rationale for Public PolicyDevelopment Office (PPDO) to organize the International Conferenceon “Happiness and Public Policy”, aiming to facilitate the exchangeof multi-disciplinary insights. and debates on the developmentparadigm, research methodologies, and findings from various countriesto enrich and enhance the quality of public policy development.
